#43 closed task (fixed)

Rename the project from Flash 10 to just Flash

Reported by: dmik Owned by:
Priority: major Milestone: Beta1
Component: wrapper Version:
Severity: Keywords:

It doesn't make sense to carry the version number since our wrapper seems to work with the Flash 11 Win32 DLLs as good as it does that with Flash 10 Win32 DLLs.

This in particular assumes renaming the references to the fixed major version number from the documentation as well as renaming this repository. I'm not sure that these tasks are for me though (correct me if I'm wrong).

From my side, I'm going to change the Flash version number that we report through the Mozilla plug-in interface in the description field which is shown on the e.g. about:plugins page and is also used by some sites to determine the installed Flash version (this is why it is important to keep this field up-to-date).

The field currently reports that it's "Shockwave Flash 10.0 r45". I suggest that we will report here the actual version of the Win32 plug-in that the new Flash for OS/2 release is going to ship.

Joachim, this is something you should tell me I think.

In my opinion the name change is not really required at this stage, although 'Flash for eComStation' may be more correct. The documentation changes should be good, but changing the repository has more implications and I don't think it's worth the trouble, at least at this moment.

Reporting the proper version string *is* important, with the flash version I currently run it is detected incorrectly often. I know this has been fixed by now (or hasn't it?)

we need to adjust the static field for now to the latest available win32 flash. the documentation should only refer to "flash for eComStation" and no version attached.
of course also the wpi needs to be changed to that.

about the repo: i have no idea if it's easy to change that. if thats easy i vote for doing that also. but i doubt it's easy without adjusting a lot stuff.
the icon/logo at the main wiki needs a change for sure.

In r54, I renamed all files referencing "10" to the ones without the number. I also removed this number from flash.txt and added several minor corrections there about things I know (see the changeset for details). This file still has to be read carefully before releasing it. Note that I didn't change the .wis script itself -- this needs to be done by the package maintainer.

In r55, I updated the description string to "Shockwave Flash 11.1 r102" which corresponds to the lateset version from Adobe for Win32 ( This version is tested and works.

I also changed the BLDLEVEL description string to "Flash Wrapper Beta 1".

Note that the version of the *wrapper* itself is 0.3.1 -- it makes sense to use the same version ( as a version number for the WPI package containing the wrapper DLL. And, in turn, use the real Win32 Flash version (e.g. for the WPI package that contains the Win32 DLL.

we changed all references to flash10. the only one which will stay, is the repo name. eventually we might change that also later.
